Jonathan Dunleavy

September 19, 1964 — November 6, 2020

Jonathan Dunleavy, father, husband, and friend to all, unexpectedly passed away November 6, 2020 at the age of 56. He was born September 19th, 1964 in Passaic, NJ to Thomas and Alice Dunleavy. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Janet Dunleavy, his children Katherine, Ryan, Emily, and Sean, his older brothers Mathew, Kevin, Christopher and 10 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his childrens significant others Shannon, Daniel, and Slater who have become family to him. He was the ultimate family man who felt immense pride in his four children. He modeled dedication, respect, and eternal love in his marriage to Janet. Jon was a devoted husband, father, and public servant. He dedicated his energy and love to his community as much as he did his family. He was elected Bloomingdales mayor in 2011 after having served as a councilman, President of Morse Lakes Homeowners Association, Bloomingdale Recreation President, and Bloomingdales Youth Organization President. He impacted many young peoples lives as a Tri-Boro baseball coach, BBYC football coach, and Cub Scout leader. He worked tirelessly to improve our town and make himself accessible to every resident. Jon will be deeply missed and his legacy will continue to impact his family, friends, and community. His family is devastated that their time with him was cut short but they are comforted by the memories they hold in their hearts. They will always remember the family vacations, Thanksgiving dance parties, over-ordering of appetizers, and the image of him with a cold Diet Pepsi in his hand. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, November 12th from 4:00-8:00 pm at The Morrison Funeral Home on 86 Bartholdi Ave Butler, NJ 07405. A memorial for the town of Bloomingdale to celebrate Jons life and legacy will be held at Delazier Field on Friday, November 13th at 11:00 am . The Dunleavy family is very appreciative of the many food donations that have been made to the home since Jons passing. They ask that future donations be used to continue Jons tradition of feeding those in need at the Trinity Church soup kitchen Thanksgiving Dinner in Harlem, New York. The following items are needed: whole turkeys (fresh or frozen), whole hams, canned vegetables, boxed potatoes and stuffing, canned cranberry sauce, applesauce cups, and butter. Donations should be dropped off at 12 Walnut Street in Bloomingdale, NJ. Thank you and know your donation will go towards a cause that was close to Jons heart.
