Archie "Skip" Harrison, Jr. age 85, passed away on January 10, 2020 in Butler, NJ. Born on September 3, 1934 in Morristown, NJ he was raised in Denville. After his marriage to Joyce Popovich of Boonton, they moved to Mt. Arlington, NJ for 32 years where they raised their daughters Debra and Sandra. Approaching his retirement years, he moved to the Paulinskill Lake section of Stillwater, NJ. Skip served in the US Army Signal Corp, Radio Communication in Germany with the 34th Signal BN. After his discharge he returned to Ballantine Labs in Boonton where he ended up having a 30 year career in the electronics field. To advance in his field of electronics, an engineering degree was required, Skip opted to enroll in college at the age of 30. Working full time days, he took college courses in the evening. Ten years later at 40 he graduated from Fairleigh Dickenson University with a BEEE degree. He was awarded several US Patents in Electronic Design while employed at Ballantine Labs, when Ballantine Labs downsized, Skip moved on joining Nucomm Microwave Radio Company in Hackettstown, where he continued to work for another 20 years retiring at age 77. During the years his 2 daughters were growing up he enjoyed taking vacation trips in his 1970 Chevy pickup truck camper. Most memorable was his cross country trips, when his daughters were in their earl teens, to the state of Washington visiting the National Parks in the northern tier of the states followed 2 years later by a trip to California visiting national parks in the southern tier of the states. A great opportunity to pursue his hobby of photography as well as giving his daughters an education on national parks. In retirement years, Skip was active in several senior groups where he engaged in dinner, dances, and trips. He was a member of several clubs, the Skylands Astronomy Club, the Col. Ryerson Civil War Roundtable, and the Hackensack River Canoe/Kayak Club. (hrckc.org) Skip enjoyed having his grandchildren come up to Paulinskill Lake for an afternoon of kayaking with him. Skip is survived by his beloved daughters, Debra Harrison Schimpf and her husband Mark and their four children, Erich, Alex, Alyssa and Nicholas and Sandra Harrison Diliberto and her husband Jim and their two children Samantha and Devin and the mother of his children, Joyce (Popovich) Harrison. He was predeceased by father Achie J. Harrison Sr. and his mother Lillian (Lash) Harrison. He was also predeceased by his sister, Janet Harrison Amato. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 9:00am-11:00am at the Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Ave, Butler, NJ. A funeral service will be offered at 11:00am also on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the service at Denville Cemetery, Denville, NJ.
