Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Ray Taylor Greig, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left us on October 8, 2026. Born on September 20, 1940, at Mercer Hospital in Trenton, New Jersey, Betty was the cherished daughter of Olga and Raymond Taylor, who predeceased her, along with her beloved husband Joseph Greig.

Betty lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and devotion to her family. She married Joe and together they built a loving home in Butler where they raised their four children. Betty's family was her greatest pride and joy, and she embraced the role of stay-at-home mom wholeheartedly. She opened her own daycare where she lovingly cared for the children of friends and family, leaving a lasting impact on many young lives.

A proud graduate of Central High School's class of 1958, Betty's early years were marked by her recognition as Haledon's first Teenage Queen in 1957. After graduation, she worked for Coats and Clarks in Fair Lawn and became deeply involved in her children's sport's activities. Her dedication extended to serving as Director of the Butler Bulldogs Drill Team, and as a past president of the Butler PTA.

Betty was an active member of the Butler United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed bowling with the Hot Tamales team at Butler Bowl. Her zest for life was evident in her love for spending time with friends at luncheons, attending Broadway plays, movies, fireworks, and casino bus trips. Betty was a talented painter and an avid traveler, cherishing trips to Disneyworld, Greece, Italy, Hawaii, and especially the Outer Banks in Kitty Hawk.

Her playful spirit was most evident in her interactions with her sisters, children, and grandchildren, who fondly remember the unique language and nicknames she created. Betty had a special fondness for Shirley Temple memorabilia, which she proudly displayed from time to time. Her kindness, loyalty, and infectious humor made her a treasured friend to all who knew her.

Betty is survived by her loving children Sharon and her husband Lou, Joey and his wife Dawn, Kevin, and Raymond and his wife Darcey. She leaves behind nine adoring grandchildren, Tyler, Jarrett, Louis, Brielle, Trevor, Jenna, Kyle, Sydney, and Ryan. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Joyce and her husband Dennis, and Dixie Karpinsky and her husband Larry. Betty will also be missed by one neice, many nephews, and her companion cat "Mandy".

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, Inc., 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ, 07405. A memorial service to honor Betty's life will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 11:00am at Butler United Methodist Church, 5 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ, 07405.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hackensack University Medical Center for their compassionate care during Betty's final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to The American Cancer Society.
