Calvin Joseph Whitty, age 80, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on May 29, 2026, at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Born on October 15, 1945, in Paterson, New Jersey, Calvin’s life was marked by his unwavering devotion to his wife of 61 years, four beautiful children, eight grandchildren and his community.
He attended Butler High School and embarked on a remarkable career with the Borough of Butler where he dedicated over 30 years of service. He loved his work and took great pride in serving the Butler community. A lifelong resident of Butler, Calvin enjoyed classic cars and western movies. He especially cherished his time spent at his beach house in South Seaside Park, where he formed lifelong friendships that became family. Whether soaking up the sun on the beach or enjoying a frozen pina colada with his family down the shore, those moments brough him great happiness.
Calvin is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Hazel Whitty; his four children, Anne Marie and Louis Shortino of Indian Land, SC; Erin and Albert Yannarelli of Totowa; Maureen and Bobby Grecco of Sparta, and Calvin and Alexa Whitty of Butler. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Albert, James, Elizabeth, Gianna, CJ, Landry and Ila.
He was predeceased by his father, Calvin; his loving mother, Mildred; his brother, William; and his grandson, Paul.
Calvin also leaves behind many close friends who will forever remember his contagious smile, kind spirit, and loving heart.
Family, friends and all who knew Calving are invited to honor his memory at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, Inc., 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, New Jersey 07405. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 4-8pm. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, beginning at 10am, followed by the burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery, Butler, NJ.
Calvin’s legacy of love, friendship, dedication and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
