Chong Chi Shan, a civil engineer who worked on various projects in the New York City area, died peacefully at his home on September 10, 2023, at the age of 89. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Shan was born in Wuxi, China, in 1934. He moved to Taiwan in 1949 and attended Cheng Kung University. He emigrated to the United States in 1962 and graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Masters Degree in Engineering. He worked as a civil engineer at various firms, including Burns & Roe in Oradell, NJ, and EBASCO in New York City.
As a professional civil engineer, Mr. Shan was both dedicated and hardworking. He was also a kind and friendly man who liked engaging with others. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Shan is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann Shan, children Helen Shan, Eric Shan and wife Betty Shan, and grandchildren Nolan, Kayla, and Andrew Shan.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 4 PM to 7pm at the Morrison Ethridge Funeral Home in Butler, NJ. If desired, donations may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
