Donald S. Collins, a beloved master carpenter and dedicated family man, passed away peacefully at his residence September 23, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 7, 1927, in Paterson, NJ, and lived a full life marked by service, craftsmanship, and a deep commitment to his loved ones.

Throughout his illustrious career, Donald worked as a master carpenter, a vocation that showcased not only his impressive skills but also his passion for creating. For thirty-eight years, he was a valued employee at Allied Signal (Bendix) in Teterboro, NJ, where his contributions were significant and highly regarded.

Donald’s devotion to his country was evident through his military service in the United States Navy during World War II, where he served in the Philippines. As a charter member of the American Legion Post 450 in Pequannock, he played a key role in the construction of the building, embodying both patriotism and community involvement.

Outside of work and service, Donald was a friendly man known for his magical touch in the garden. Gardening was not merely a hobby for him; it was an expression of his love for nature. He took great joy in running his own vegetable stand from his home, sharing the fruits of his labor with others. He was also an enthusiastic traveler, hunter, and fisherman, pursuits that brought him happiness and adventure throughout his life.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, and children Nanci and Donald Jr., alongside his parents, David R. Collins and Elah (Lowe) Munson. He leaves behind a rich legacy, including his children Linda, Stephen, Jeffrey (Karen), Michael (wife Louise), Noreen (husband Kevin), Peggy (Mark), and Jonathan. Donald was also a proud grandfather to 23 grandchildren, a great-grandfather to 27 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandfather to 3 great-great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, and outlaws who will dearly miss his warmth and spirit.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Donald’s life during a visitation on September 27, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, located at 86 Bartholdi Ave, Butler, NJ. A funeral service will be held the following day, September 28, 2024, 11:00 AM, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Brown Cemetery. 

Donald S. Collins will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but for his kind heart, generous nature, and the profound impact he had on everyone who knew him.
