Frederick Salek

May 10, 1959 — July 3, 2025

Kinnelon, NJ

Frederick Salek, a beloved father, godfather, and cherished member of the Smoke Rise community, passed away peacefully at his home on July 3rd, 2025, at the age of 66.

Born in Passaic, New Jersey in 1959, Fred was the son of the late Ferdinand and the late Florence (Kwasnik) Salek, and resided in Wallington, NJ. Fred attended Don Bosco Prep where he developed a lifelong love of football and learning. Fred did some college at Rutgers University, Newark before spending nearly 2 decades working for Inserra Supermarkets. Fred was also a proud member of the Hillside S.A.C in Wallington, NJ, where he shared countless memories and lasting friendships.

Above all else, Fred was a devoted and loving father to his daughter Ashley Salek. He was also a proud godfather to Kyle Gilland. He is survived by his ex-wife Regina Salek, his cousins Pat Gilland, Cindy Chudzik Takacs, Kathy Chudzik, Deborah Ciliento, Anthony and Kenny Kaprowski, and their families.

Fred lived with a deep appreciation of life’s pleasures. He found joy in fishing, cooking, and traveling, especially traveling to the British Virgin Islands. Whether snorkeling in the clear blue waters, island hopping, or sharing a drink at the Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke, Fred embraced the spirit and culture of the islands. A culinary enthusiast who studied briefly at the French Culinary Institute in New York City, he had an adventurous palate and never missed an opportunity to try a new restaurant or cook delicious meals for family. Music was another comfort and companion in Fred’s life. His home echoed with the sounds of his favorite Rock bands - Nickelback, Van Halen, and 3 Doors Down - that brought him joy, stirred old memories, and gave him peace.

Fred’s love extended to his dogs, who were constant and loyal companions throughout his life. He deeply loved and cared for many, especially Simba, Max, and most recently Tyson, each of whom brought him comfort, laughter, and unconditional love.

Fred will be remembered for his sense of adventure, and unwavering love for his daughter and family. His legacy lives on in the memories he created and the lives he touched.
