Gregory Sauter

Gregory Sauter, born on April 5, 1941, in New York, New York, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 4, 2025. He was 84 years old. At his bedside was his devoted wife, Margaret (Peggy) Campbell, to whom he had been married for 63 loving years. They were wed at Saint Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre, New York, when Greg was just 21 years old.

Greg is survived by his devoted wife Peggy, loving sibling, Harry Coyle, his three children, Kathleen and her husband Peter Lorenzo, Gregory and his wife Kristen, and John and his wife Christine; and his six adored grandchildren, Alyson, Mathew, Ava, Emma, Paige, and Mitchell.

His love for his family was unparalleled, and he cherished every moment spent with them. An avid saltwater fisherman, Greg found joy and solace in the sea. Whether casting his line from the beach, the jetties, or one of the many boats he owned over the years, he was always eager for his next opportunity to wet a line. His closest friendships, in addition to Peggy, were with fellow anglers, those salty souls with whom he shared countless hours in pursuit of striped bass, bluefish, and fluke.

In his honor, wake services will be held on May 8, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, located at 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ, 07405. Funeral services will take place on Friday May 9th at Our Lady of Magnificat Church, 2 Miller Road, Kinnelon, NJ, 07405. The mass will be held at 10 AM, followed by the burial service. Friends and family are invited to join for the repass at Cypress, located at 174 Kinnelon Rd, Kinnelon, NJ 07405-2336, following the burial service.

Greg's passion for life, love for his family, and dedication to his favorite pastime will always be remembered. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
