Jane Veronica Cosgrove Lee

February 20, 1934 — November 21, 2022

Jane Veronica Cosgrove Lee, 88, of Wayne NJ entered into eternal rest on November 21st in Wayne NJ. All of Jane’s grandparents immigrated from Ireland and ended up on Staten Island. The Cosgroves from Clones, the O’Farrells from Rahan in Cork, the Rices and Mckuskers from Belfast.

Jane was born on February 20th, 1934 to Gerald Joseph Cosgrove and Alice Rita (Rice) Cosgrove in Staten Island, NY. One of eight Cosgrove children, Jane grew up on Davis Avenue in West Brighton, attending St. Peters High School, and then worked for the phone company in Manhattan. On June 4, 1960, she married Theodore Hubert Lee of Tottenville, Staten Island, NY and together they raised six children in Long Island, Staten Island, Dayton, Ohio, and mostly in Bloomingdale, NJ. Although they lived in NJ, Ted, Jane, and crew enjoyed many family visits back to the cradle of civilization on Staten Island, and many visits to their favorite Jersey Shore location of Manasquan, NJ. Jane’s second favorite Jersey Shore location was Atlantic City, which she visited as often as she could along with her siblings and friends. Jane loved life and family, and enjoyed bowling, bridge, and was a formidable Scrabble player. She loved to laugh, and was known for telling it “like it is.” In keeping with family tradition, she could be convinced to have a shot of Baileys here and there, and was very fond of tiramisu. She was an active member of St. Anthony’s Parish, in Butler, NJ serving as an officer in the St. Anthony’s Columbiettes chapter #943.

She is survived by her six children and their spouses Catherine Lee Drexler, Matthew and Susan (Koza) Lee, Mark and Allison (Peters) Lee, Stephen, Maureen, and Michael and Jill (Armstrong) Lee. Jane is also survived by 13 grandchildren and their spouses, Erin (Drexler) Needell and spouse Jared Needell, Christopher Drexler, Kyle Drexler and spouse Kyli (McDonald) Drexler, Thomas Drexler the father of Erin, Christopher, and Kyle, Dr. Erica Lee Klizas and spouse Dan Klizas, Kevin Lee and spouse Lauren (Drain) Lee, and Rachel Lee, Timothy Lee and spouse Andrea (Osborne) Lee and Madeline Lee, Stephanie, Devin, and Colin Lee, Victoria Gradus Lee the mother of Stephanie, Devin, and Colin, and Sean and Samantha Lee.

From among her siblings, she is survived by her sister, MaryAlice (Cosgrove) Joinson, and sister Kathleen (Cosgrove) Kliesch and brother-in-law Vincent Kliesch, her sisters-in-law Ann (Edwards) Cosgrove, and Lenora (Poliseno) Cosgrove, all of Staten Island. Her seven brothers and sisters and loving sister-in-law Edith gifted her with 24 nieces and nephews, and many grandnieces and nephews whom she always loved to see, and that always loved to see Aunt Jane. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Ted, in 2008. She was also predeceased in life by some of her beloved siblings and their spouses, Elizabeth (Cosgrove) Denault and her husband Robert, Gerald and Ann (Foran) Cosgrove, Thomas Francis Cosgrove, Edward James Cosgrove, John Arthur Cosgrove, and her dear sister-in-law Edith Lee Dow.
