Jeanne “Jeanette” Bessis, age 96, of Kinnelon, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on December 1, 1929, in Saint-Santin, France, to Joseph and Angel, Jeanne later made her home on Long Island, New York, where she built a life rooted in family, laughter, and strength. She was especially proud of becoming a United States citizen, an achievement that meant a great deal to her.

Jeanne was married to her beloved husband, Jean Bessis, for 43 years. He predeceased her in 1996.

Jeanne was feisty, strong, loving, and generous. She was known for her sage advice and her ability to make people laugh. She loved being with her family, playing cards, dressing up and going out. Her signature phrases, “Oooo la la” and “Mon Dieu,” will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved her.

Above all, Jeanne will be remembered for her tenacity and courage, facing life’s challenges with determination and spirit.

She is survived by her daughters Agnès Savvides (Steven Savvides) and Beatrice DeBerry; her grandchildren Catherine Savvides-Rothenburger (Sean Rothenburger), Stephanie Savvides, Nathalie Carpenter (Garrett Carpenter), and Valerie McDowell (Zach McDowell); and her great-grandchildren Cali, Chloe, and Colton Rothenburger, Chiara Carpenter, and Caden and Colette McDowell.

Jeanne was Catholic and attended Our Lady of the Magnificat, where she was affectionately known as “Granny.”

Jeanne will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, New York.

Her family will miss her deeply and carry her memory always.
