Katherine Nevard Cook of Matamoras PA, died suddenly on August 18, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Grace Nevard, and her eldest son David Cook. She is survived and deeply missed by her husband of 47 years, Charles Cook, her youngest son Justin Cook, grandson Eric Cook, and daughter-in-law Cheryl Cook. She is also survived by her sisters Bonnie Matthews (John), Debbie Nevard, Sandy Thoma (Dan), Ginny Nevard, brother Rick Nevard (Christi), many nieces and nephews, and many many dear friends that she loved like family.
Kathy spent most of her career as a school bus driver, wanting a job that centered around time with her sons. When they were grown, she pursued a career in medical billing. During her retirement, Kathy became a very active and enthusiastic member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Katherine was a proud seventeen year member of the DAR. A born leader, she was serving as the Chapter Regent of the Chinkchewunska Chapter at the time of her passing. Her service record includes Division Vice Chair Eastern Division for DAR Project Patriot, Chapter Regent, Continental Congress Member, House Tiers Section E-J, State Chair for the Flag of the United States of America, State Co-Chair for DAR Service for Veterans and Chapter Chaplain, Chinkchewunska. Katherine completed Class/Training Activity including Members Course, New Horizons Course, and Committee Leaders Course. Katherine was recently approved into the Inheritance Project and inherited a new Patriot from her sister Bonnie. The DAR will dearly miss Kathy, her warmth, and the warmth from her oven.
More than anything, Kathy was a helper. She was the first to offer a warm smile, a ride, a shoulder to lean on, or one of her legendary baked goods. There was nothing Kathy wouldn’t do for her family, her friends, or even a stranger. Helping others was the center of Kathy’s being, and her loss is deeply felt by all who were lucky enough to know her. Viewing hours will be Thursday, August 22nd, 2024, from 4pm to 8pm at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home Inc., 86 Bartholdi Ave., Butler, N.J. A funeral will be held Friday 11am also at the funeral home. A burial will follow in Mt. Rest Cemetery, Butler, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathy’s name to Wounded Warriors or any charity that supports veterans. Veteran welfare was a cause very dear to Kathy’s heart.
