Kenneth "Doc" Dougherty, a dedicated public servant and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, at Chilton Hospital in Pompton Plains, NJ, surrounded by family and close friends. Born on December 18, 1964, in Pompton Plains, NJ, Kenny's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his community and the deep bonds he formed with those around him.
A proud graduate of Wayne Hills High School, Class of 1983, Kenny embarked on a remarkable career with the Borough of Butler, where he devoted 23 years of service. Holding the esteemed position of Senior Water Treatment Operator, he was entrusted with maintaining the water integrity for the residents of Butler—a responsibility he approached with diligence, pride, and professionalism. Kenny took great satisfaction in the licenses and specialized training he earned to expertly operate the water treatment facility, exemplifying his dedication to his craft.
Kenny was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 943, reflecting his commitment to faith and community. Known affectionately as "Doc" among friends, Kenny was a great friend and a special person to many. His love for his work was evident, especially at his post overlooking the reservoir, where he delighted in sharing photographs of the serene views and local wildlife. Beyond his professional life, Kenny's passions included attending music concerts and spending time with friends, enjoying the vibrant connections that enriched his life.
Kenny’s warmth extended to his beloved Chihuahua, Cassie, who often nestled comfortably in his jacket, a tender reminder of the gentle companionship he treasured. His presence brought joy and comfort to many, and his loss is deeply felt.
He is survived by his loving girlfriend, Jenny Jeski; his brother Michael and sister-in-law Paula; his nephew Ryan, along with Ryan’s wife Nicole and daughter Savannah; and nieces Caitlyn and Allison. He leaves behind many close friends who will remember him with great affection. Kenny was predeceased by his father, Kenneth; mother, Joyce; sister, Tammy; nephew Michael; and his cherished Cassie.
Family, friends, and all who knew Kenny are invited to honor his memory at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, Inc., located at 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ 07405. Visitation will be held on April 27, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by the funeral service beginning at 7:30 PM.
On Thursday, April 30th a graveside service with burial of ashes will be held at the Pompton Reformed Church Cemetery, 59 Hamburg Tpk., Pompton Lakes, NJ.
Kenneth Dougherty's legacy is one of steadfast service, heartfelt friendship, and genuine kindness. He will be remembered dearly by his loved ones and the community he so faithfully served. May he rest in peace.
