Michael Francis Kelly

Michael Francis Kelly, attorney at law, passed away on January 17, 2019 at the age of 69 after a period of deteriorating health. Michael was born April 10, 1949 at Paterson General Hospital, and grew up in Butler. He attended Saint Anthonys Grammar School and was a graduate of De Paul High School in Wayne, graduating from NCCU Law School, Durham,, North Carolina and teaching at William Paterson University.Michael was devoted to providing services to those in need of legal assistance beginning in his position as a public defender for the State of New Jersey. Upon his retirement, he continued that tradition with his own law firm based in Wayne where he was known for his sense of humor and straightforward approach, including the firm mottos: "Beer in the Belly, Call Kelly" and "In the Cell, Call Kell". A life long Democrat, he was generous to his friends and staff and was proud of his membership in the Passaic County Emerald Society. He will be greatly missed by his many friends, clients and colleagues. Michael was predeceased by his parents, John and Helen Kelly of Butler, NJ and his younger brother Kevin who passed away in 1986. He is survived by his brothers Patrick and his partner Daphne Thomas, by Timothy and his wife Honora, and by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Sunday January 20, 2019 from 4-8PM and 4-8PM on Monday January 21 at the Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Ave Butler, NJ. A funeral mass will be offered Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 10AM at St. Anthony's RC Church, 63 Bartholdi Ave Butler. Burial will immediately follow the mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Bartholdi Ave. Butler.
