MICHAEL J. FITZPATRICK - Born November 20, 1939, Mike was one of six children, all of whom were raised in Butler, NJ.
Mike was predeceased by his brother, Bob, and is survived by his wife (Joan) and his three children (Michael, Jacki and Kathi) as well as six grandchildren.
From an early age Mike developed a love of learning, a solid work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit that served him well throughout his life. Exceling in school, he graduated with honors from Butler High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After graduating from initial training #1 in a class of 200 recruits, he served with distinction in the submarine service for the next four years.
Having developed an affinity for the paving business while working in his fathers company as a teenager, Mike returned to the paving and construction industry following his tour in the Navy. In 1975, he bought his fathers business and over a period of 35 years, in partnership with his son Michael, built a formidable full-service site construction corporation.
Throughout his lifetime Mike was also active in community service. For more that 31 years he served as a volunteer fireman in the Bartholdi Hose Company where he rose to the level of Assistant Chief. He was also a councilman on the Butler Town Council for 10 years, and served on the Advisory Board of Lakeland Bank for another 10 years.
Mike passed peacefully in his sleep on August 31. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 6, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM after which the burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Butler.
In lieu of flowers it was Mikes wish that donations be made to the Bartholdi Hose Fire Company.
