In Loving Memory of Ramis Medina

Our beloved mother, Ramis Medina, was a woman of extraordinary warmth, strength, humor, and generosity. She was smart and wonderfully sharp, with a quick wit that could make us laugh when we least expected it. She was a wonderful cook, loved bingo and her scratchies, and was always ready with a little advice—solicited or not—given with love and usually a good dose of humor.

Above all, Ramis was a woman of love and service.

She lived her life giving to others while asking very little for herself. She simply did not know how to hate. Her heart naturally led her to help, comfort, feed, advise, and care for those around her.

Her greatest love and proudest accomplishment were always her children; Felix, Ramis, Fior and Gloria. We were her pride, her purpose, and the center of her life. She celebrated us, worried about us, encouraged us, and loved us fiercely. She taught us that a good life is not measured by what we have, but by what we give—and to live with humility, compassion, generosity, and gratitude.

Ramis also had a beautiful second family in Washington Heights, the neighborhood she loved and where she chose to live independently, with the freedom that meant so much to her. She treasured her neighbors, her bingo friends, the people at her local pharmacy, and the familiar faces throughout her block.

They knew Ramis, and they loved her.

She found purpose in being needed. Whether someone needed a meal, furniture, advice, a helping hand, a little babysitting, or simply someone to sit with and talk, she was there. Helping others wasn't something Ramis did for recognition—it was simply who she was.

In so many ways, she lived a Franciscan life: with humility, simplicity, compassion, and a generous heart. Giving, not receiving, was how she chose to live.

We will miss everything that made her uniquely Mom—her cooking, her laughter, her wonderfully sharp humor, her scratchies, her opinions, her stories, and most of all, the comfort of simply knowing Mom was there.

Mom, you always said your children were your proudest achievement, but being your children was one of the greatest gifts of our lives.

Thank you for every meal, every laugh, every piece of advice, every sacrifice we knew about—and the many we probably never did. Thank you for teaching us to remain humble, to give more than we receive, and to always make room in our hearts for someone who needs us.

We will find you every time we help someone without expecting anything in return, every time we gather around a table, every time we laugh together, and every time we choose kindness and remember to stay humble.

You spent your life taking care of us and so many others. Now it is time for you to rest, Mom.

Go peacefully knowing how deeply you were loved, how proud we are to be your children, and how much of you will continue to live through us.

We love you, Mom.

We will miss you more than words can say.

Rest peacefully, surrounded by all the love you gave so freely in this life.

Until we are together again.
