Richard G. Foster, Jr., 78, of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Paramus, NJ. Butch, as he was known by his friends, was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Paterson, NJ on October 11, 1946. He was a long-time resident of Pompton Lakes and was a second-generation student to graduate from Pompton Lakes High School. After high school, he attended Paul Smith Collage in Paul Smiths, NY studying to become a forester. Soon after leaving school, Butch was drafted into the US Army and became a proud member of the 564th Military Police Company rising to the ranking of acting sergeant. He served our great country stationed in Massweiler, Germany. After serving his country with honor, Butch returned stateside and worked for NJ Bell alongside his father -in-law, Carleton Wyss and his wife’s uncle, Jack Shippee. He eventually retired from Lucent Technologies. Butch would briefly work for IBEW local 102.2.
As a new retiree, Richard would travel the United States and Europe with his adoring wife, Vonnie. Butch was an avid Nascar fan routing for his favorite drivers, Harry Gant and Mark Martin. He enjoyed attending the New York Yankees and Sussex County Miner games with his sons, Michael and Mark.
Richard is predeceased by his father Richard G. Foster, Sr. and his mother Elizabeth Valentine. He is also predeceased by his father-in-law Carleton W. Wyss and mother-in-law Joyce M. Wyss. He is survived by his loving wife Yvonne Foster of Sparta, NJ and his two sons, Michael Scott Foster of Hardyston NJ and Mark Andrew Foster of Blairstown, NJ. Butch is also survived by his cousin, Kathy Guariglia of Powder Springs, GA.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025, from 4:00pm-8:00pm at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home located at 86 Bartholdi Avenue Butler, NJ, followed by a service the next day at 11am also at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Mt Calvary Cemetery, Butler, NJ.
