Robert Woolsey King

Robert Woolsey King, known to many as Bob, passed away on September 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 89 years old.

Bob lived a life marked by intelligence, dedication, kindness, and deep love for those around him. He studied mathematics and engineering at the University of Tennessee, building a strong foundation for a career that reflected both his curiosity and his forward-thinking mind. He went on to work for Tennessee Eastman, where he was a pioneer of computer programming, contributing to a field that was still in its early days and helping shape work that would have lasting importance.

Before that chapter of his life, Bob served his country as an Air Force veteran, stationed at various bases around the world. His military service was an important part of his life and reflected his sense of duty and commitment.

Outside of his work and service, Bob found joy in life’s quieter and most meaningful pleasures. He loved reading, hiking, and spending time with his animals, especially his dogs. He will be remembered as a very sweet and loving man, and as someone with a good judge of character. Those who knew him experienced his warmth, his steady presence, and the genuine care he gave so freely.

Bob’s family was at the heart of his life. He is survived by his daughter Paula Cappello and her husband, Jack; his son Michael Ling and Molly Blank; and his daughter Kathleen Harrison and her wife, Lana. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Cole, Will, and Leo, who were an important and cherished part of his family circle. The love shared among them was a lasting gift, and his memory will continue to live on in their lives and in the stories they carry forward.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce King; his brother, Larry; his mother, Dot; and his father, Ernest.

Robert Woolsey King will be remembered with love, gratitude, and admiration. His life was one of service, intellect, gentleness, and devotion to family, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the blessing of knowing him.
