Rosalie M. Ehrlich passed away on November 2, 2026, at home surrounded by her family. Born on July 6, 1943, Rosalie lived a life rooted in devotion to her family, religon, her students, and the many people who came to know her as a steady, loving, and unforgettable presence.
Education was both her calling and her lifelong commitment. Rosalie earned a master’s degree in education and completed an additional ten years of college study through Newark State College in Union, New Jersey, and Seaton Hall University. She shared her gifts generously throughout a distinguished career as a Special Education Teacher at Macopin Middle School in West Milford, New Jersey, as a Special Education Professor at William Paterson University, and as a teacher at Sylvan Learning Center in Arizona and in other schools in West Milford Township. Her work reflected patience, intelligence, and a deep belief in the value and potential of every student she taught.
Outside of her professional life, Rosalie found joy in the simple and meaningful pleasures that made a house feel like home. She loved crocheting, reading, writing short stories, and watching the Hallmark Channel and The Golden Girls. She was proudly and lovingly known as a self-proclaimed stubborn Italian woman, a crazy lady, a teacher, a sister from another mother, a confidante, and a friend. Those descriptions captured her spirit well: warm, strong-willed, witty, caring, and impossible to forget.
Above all, Rosalie’s life was centered on the people she loved. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Talmadge, Jeannette Chardavoyne and her husband Mark; by her step-daughter Doreen Ehrlich; by her step-son, Stephen Ehrlich; by her sister, Phyllis Roden and her husband Martin; and by her cherished grandchildren, Jessica Babcock, Ronald Talmadge, Jody Talmadge, Danielle Talmadge, Brooke Chardavoyne, and Lindsey Chardavoyne, Nieces, Melodi Sapyta, Lynda and John Freihammer, Debra and Michael Adrowski, 9 great grandchildren and 11 great greatgrandchildren. Each of them carries forward memories of her love, her strength, her laughter, and the special ways she made those around her feel seen and cared for.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Ehrlich; her son-in-law, Henry Talmadge; and her parents, Frank and Concetta Bertino. Their memory remained an important part of her life, and she now rests with those who went before her.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on November 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Morrison Etheridge Funeral Home, Inc., 86 Bartholdi Ave, Butler, NJ 07405. A funeral service will be held there the same evening at 6:30 p.m.
