Shane Melly, 49, passed away on May 28th, in community with those who loved him. Born on June 6, 1976 in Ridgewood, NJ, Shane lived a life that was both challenging and deeply human. To all who knew him, Shane found joy in giving and receiving gifts of humor. Quick-witted, he could find a joke in any situation and had a way of making people laugh, especially when they needed it most. His humor was one of the many ways he connected with others, and left a lasting impression on acquaintances, friends, and family alike.

Shane proudly served his country as a member of the US Marine Corps. He achieved the rank of corporal, working as a diesel mechanic until receiving an honorable discharge in 1999. After leaving the military, Shane worked for the Village of Ridgewood in the Department of Public Works. If you've ever dropped a quarter in a meter in Ridgewood, odds are good it was emptied by Shane. He later worked with his mother, performing administrative duties to support her tax business until her retirement.

Above all, Shane loved his daughter Gia. He was a devoted father and his relationship with her was among the most important parts of his life. The love and companionship they shared for many years remained a constant throughout their lives.

Shane is survived by his mother, Carmen, his daughter Giavanna, his life long partner Kellyann Gormley, his uncle John Sabaliauskas, and cousins Dana Worthing and Nicole Luciano, as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Melly, grandparents Angelo and Alice Ciarlo, and aunts Gail Sabaliauskas and Karen Ciarlo.

His life is a reminder that every person's story is complex and that compassion, understanding, and love endure beyond our imperfections.

The family would like to thank the healthcare professionals who cared for him during his final days, as well as the family and friends who offered support and kindness throughout his life

May he rest in peace.
